Luna Experiment

I experimented with some tissue and glue to give Luna a big ruff that she has. This is exaggerated but I don't mind how it turned out. It isn't exactly as I saw it in my mind but it turned into an intersting experiment. I have done flowers before with this techinque and it is better for that purpose I guess. I just love working with watercolors but obviously need more practice.

Lisa, I think you captured Luna! The eyes are wonderful and her expression is so full of love. The ruff is an interesting addition!

Welcome Qualcosa di bello, and thank you for the compliment.

Teri, this is a simple techinique. You take a little white glue, I used Elmers, add some water. I didn't measure. I just squirted some water into the glue and stirred. Then I shredded some white tissue, since Luna is white, and dipped the tissue shreds into the water/glue mix spread them onto my watercolor paper where I wanted it. I used an old brush to help situate the shreds and then you have to let it dry. Which in this case took almost a week before I painted it.

The paint gets into the cracks and crevices and changes the look. You can use colored tissue if you want. Depends on your subject. The glue dries clear so you can paint over and it does change the look of the tissue but not a lot.

Really a good techinique if you want a rough texture or a three dimentional look.

Beckie, thank you. She was so happy when DB took the picture that I painted from. We were at the park, one of her favorite places.

The tissue & glue are great. Really add that extra pop and texture. Nice.

What I really notice in this painting and the pencil drawing is the life in the subjects. The eyes look alive! I'm curious as to the dimensions of your work.

Theresa

Theresa, the Luna Experement is 13 1/2" x 17". I don't know what size the pencil drawing was. I gave it to my Great Nephew and his wife for christmas. It is about the same size. I use what ever size is handy for the most part. I used a 10x7" Water Color pad for this last cactus. I think the first cactus was smaller.
