Nature Journal

Remember the other day when i mentioned that I am taking a Creative Journaling class from Laure Ferlita? It is so much fun. My focus is a nature journal.  You know I love nature. I am learning how to journal with some different applications of watercolor etc.
This is my cover page. It is funny that when you learn one thing it always leads to other possiblilities. I will be posting more. I have much to learn.

Animal Wednesday - House Wrens

The House Wrens are nesting again. They have chosen the box just outside my office window. I am glad because I enjoy watching them come and go. The Mr sings a lot to protect his territory. I know when every cat in the neighborhood comes by. When he tunes up all I know that a cat or another bird has come into his territory. Happy Animal Wednesday everyone.

Thank you Tuesday

A friend of mine just returned from a trip to England and Ireland. She brought me some goodies. I made her a little thank you card. I want to go there too. Maybe someday.

Thankful Thursday

The last of the ABC ATC2 cards are slowly trickling in. It is such fun receiveing these atcs I hate to see the trade end.  This "W"alrus came from Patty in AK. It is such a cutie. Thank you Patty.

While the ABC ATC2 trade is ending I am begining a new adventure. I am taking an online class from Laure Ferlita. It is an Artful Journaling class.I have never done an online class before. It seems great so far.  One of the things she asked us to do is to pick a Signature Color. Have you ever thought of yourself as a color?  I haven't ever thought quite like that. So I am already thinking out of my tiny little box. Which color did I pick?? I chose Phthalo Turquoise.  There is something about that color that intrigues me. It can be ever so dark yet can be as light as a glacier fed spring.
This time of year the spiders are busily building their webs. They must capture plenty of food for their spiderlings to be able to make it through the winter. The background here in this sketch is my signature color. It looks a bit more blue through the camera's eye. I wanted to do a page with it and I think this suits me.

I am so thankful for all of the people that take time to leave comments here. I am also thankful for the new people I have met through the class. Ilook forward to getting to know them better. Cheers...

Morose Monday

I don't really want to sound morose but I have a sad story to tell.  If you are a bit squeamish you had best not read on.  We were driving home late last night and we hit a small brown bat. The poor little dear was just out trying to make a living but it flew right into the truck windshield.  There were millions of moths and bugs also smashing onto the windshield I shouldn't have been so surprised to see a bat smacking the windshield.  When it appeared that it was wrested onto the windshield wiper it was like a blanket of gloom came over me.
I don't know much about bats. It is either a Little Brown Bat or an Indiana Bat. The Indiana bat is endnagered. I hope it isn't one of them. It is most likely a Little Brown Bat.
You can see how small it is.
The only good thing about this happening is that I got to paint the little guy. It looks like a tiny teddy bear with wings from the back. I couldn't look it in the face to paint its face. Maybe after I get over hitting it I will be able to do that. I took several photos. I know that sounds macabre. I couldn't help myself. It is now resting in the Patriot Hosta garden. Don't you just hate to hit any living thing with a vehicle? I don't even like to hear the smacking of the insects on the windshield. I am glad I don't drive much at night.

Thankful Thursday ~ Surprise

I have to tell you I am still able to celebrate my birthday.  This makes me so happy. :)  I received a lovely yellow packet from Cheryl, a dear blogger friend,   this week.  It was certainly worth waiting for.
It had a sweet hand written card with a beaded necklace and an inspirational garden journal in it. I wish you could see all the details.  The necklace has some cloisonne beads and all are the colors I wear. How did you know Cheryl?  The little journal has felt grass and  little lambs on some of the pages. Just too sweet.  It is that unexpected gift that really means so much. Thank you again Cheryl.
This is how I feel when I open my blog and find that all my friends have left comments. Each is a treasure. Thank you all for stopping by.

Animal Wedensday - Skunk

When we were out birding early yesterday we saw a skunk along the side of the road. He was a little nervous about us driving up beside of him. His tail went up as a precaution.  Happy Animal Wednesday.

Cactus Monday - Blooms

When I went out onto the patio the other morning I felt like someone was looking at me. It was this cactus. It has only two blooms on its crown. Before the blooms went all the way around the crown.
This is ok. They are beautiful little blooms.
Happy Cactus Monday to everyone. For more cactus capers go Here.

Happy Fourth of July

This is a bouquet I picked this morning to take to the party we are attending this afternoon. Red, white and blue are the theme colors obviously since it is July 4th here when we Americans celebrate  independence day. Happy 4th of July.

Thankful Thursday - X

I received a marvelous packet from someone today. Can you guess who it came from??
If you guess Lolo you were right. It is fun to be right isn't it? I gave you a beautiful hint no doubt.
The card that accompanied all the goodies she sent was so pretty. I like the quote on the front of it too.
The last ABC ATC2 that she was sending me was enclosed. It is quite beautiful as you can see. The title of this one is Xerci. The beautiful moon is shining too.
Another fun aspect of this packet are all the goodies that Lolo so generously sent. I can have all kinds of fun with these cards, stickers, tags etc.
Thank you ever so much for your generosity and for sharing some of your creative essence with me.
