Vermeer

To all of my Artsy friends. My DB sent this link to me. I think it is fascinating. I think you will too.

I don't know how to insert the videos etc that go with it so hop over to it and have a look. This should take your mind off of the holiday hustle and bustle. :)

Merry Christmas...

Animal Wednesday - Fox

I was reading Lilac Lamb's Facebook Page and she mentioned the song What does a fox say. I found this song entertaining. It also reminded me that I saw a fox not too long ago. Here are pictures of it. It was sitting on the side of a levee watching for mice when...
all of a sudden a Northern Harrier buzzed by. The harrier also hunts this location.
The fox decides to see where the Harrier was going. That bird would make a delightful meal  that would last a long time.
Whoops, here it is. You are too slow Mr Fox.
He gave up after this and disappeared into an overgrown area. I wonder what he was saying as he departed.
Happy Animal Wednesday.

Practice

Yes, I am still practicing drawing faces. I received a clothing catalog with all of these handsome models.
I need more practice. None of these look anything like the pictures. I will keep practicing
Have a great week.

Animal Wednesday - Annie

I want to introduce you to our new dog, Princess Anna VonAnderson aka Annie. I have done some sketches of her but my crazy photo program is fritzing on me.
She has a big heart. You can even see it on the outside.
To read a little more about her you can go here.
Happy Animal Wednesday.

Animal Wednesday - Vinny

As Wednesday is traditionally Animal day I thought I would post sketches I did of Vinny while he was staying with us. He is a great guard dog. He kept the squirrels and rabbits, mentioned in my previous post, at bay.
He would take a break occasionally and I would try to sketch him. He is the sweetest boy dog I know.
He had a stuffed bunny that he would sleep with and waller from time to time. Great companion dog.
Happy Animal Wedensday.

Rascally Rabbits

Rabbits are trying to take over our garden. I went outside and this one just sat there looking at me. It then reared up on it's hind legs. I wonder what that means in rabbit speak?
Have a good week.

Friday Fan

A lady gave me a pen holder that she made. Such a thoughtful thing to do. The pen I have sketched is the type of pen I like for writing. I draw with it sometimes too but the ink runs when you add water. Sometimes that isn't a bad thing.
This time of year I get out my ceramic pumpkin with mice poking their heads out. They are cheerful little creatures.
I hope you all have a fine weekend.

Calm Sketching Time

I hope that this weekend brings you a bit of calm.
Some time for some mindless sketching. It seems I have been having an abundance of time for this.
Happy Weekend everyone.

Noticing Autumn

Despite all the football I have not been ignoring the changing of the seasons.  I love autumn. It is a time of year that I feel like I can totally relax. Enjoy the garden. Chase after migrating birds. When I am out a lot I find the falling leaves captivate my attention. It seems to me that trees always herald the beginning of autumn's shorter days waving flags of colorful shapes and hues.
On the leaf below I found a gall. I have no idea what creature inhabited this gall. The leaf was thrown to the ground. I opened the gall and sure enough there were a few tiny, smaller than rice, white wiggly worms. I wonder what sort of tiny beasty this was. One of the mysteries of autumn.
I hope your week is filled with interesting autumnal mysteries.

Football Entertainment

Since football season started...
I have had the major doodles.
While my home team is the Colts.
I keep an eye on other teams through out the league. My Grands live in WI so I root for the Packers.
I really like the Broncos too. Not only because the former Colts quarterback, Peyton Manning,  plays there but I was out there one year when Elway was taking the Broncs to the Superbowl. It was great fun. I have friends that live in Denver.
My Son has always been a Dolphins fan. My boss loves the Saints QB because he went to her alma mater, Purdue.  Purdue is in IN so I have to be for them too.
Is there anyone else out there into football like I am?

Animal Wednesday - Horsefly

This summer there seemed to be lots of horse flies around. Luckily there weren't any females trying to take a bite out of me.
Happy Animal Wednesday.

Misc Monday

I have a new camera but I am not sure I like it as much as the old one. This page is of things that were  sitting on the coffee table.
I have made several fairy gardens this summer. This is my latest one. It is in a big glass container that came into the shop defective. I glued it together and made a garden.
Have a great week everyone.

Sketching

I am slow but sure with my sketching. The one below is what I did with a Tombo felt tipped?pen. I like using it sometimes.
I bet you can't guess what I was watching on tv while I sketched the next one. :)
I found a new snack I like. I was cruising the aisles at a World Market and found these crunchy things. I like salty crunchy snacks.
I hope you all are having a sketchy weekend.  Have fun be happy.

Animal Wednesday - Northern Bobwhite

The Bobwhites must have had a decent nesting year despite the floods in early summer and drought in late summer. We are seeing them each time we go birding. Cheery little game birds.
Happy Animal Wednesday.

Monday Mishmash

This first sketch is of a door that was on a card I received. It was so pretty with lots of fretwork.
This is one of my mindless doodles.
Have a good week.

Blooming Tuesday - Lily Vase

I drew this Lily Vase. It is a bit beat and battered but I think it is still pretty so I keep it. It was given to me by a dear friend. Acrostic Poems are playing peek a boo in my head lately. Another for Blooming Tuesday.
I hope you had a good day.

Acrostic Action

I was up early with the birds this morning. It must be in the air. This delightful dickcissel was singing his heart out the other day while we were birding. Couldn't resist a photo that I later (this morning) sketched. An acrostic poem leapt onto the page too.

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

There were shadows on the wall with the sun blazing through the tree limbs. I will be having more sofa time what with football beginning soon. This gives me time to think, believe it or not.

Terrarium Blooming Tuesday

As I sat on my sofa the other day I realized I hadn't ever sketched my terrariums. So here it is. The only thing blooming is a pepperomia in the shorter terrarium. You can't see it in the sketch. You can't hardly see it with the naked eye either for that matter. It is fun to see it bloom. A first for me.
Happy Blooming Tuesday to you all.

Animal Wednesday - Kitty

I am trying to get a sketch made for my daughter. She is turning 40 next month. Can you believe it?  Neither can I. She has asked me to paint something for her. I can never bring myself to do it. Fear of failure. Fear of rejection. Who knows why I can't seem to get it going, until now.
This sketch reflects some of my thoughts. Not that actual painting. ha... Lets hope I can do a little better than this. This shows that I can't take my mind off the painting for too long.
Happy Animal Wednesday.

PGA Golf

I have been working at this page for several days. My DB and I like to watch the golf matches on tv. This was the last match of the season which brings me to the finish of this page. I was fascinated by all the advertisement that the players wore. They are walking billboards.
Did you have something interesting to watch on tv this weekend?

Sketching again...Many Thanks Teri

Back in July, the 26th to be exact, I got to visit with Blogging Friend Teri and her Family. It wasn't the first time that Teri and I have met. It is was so much fun. In addition to the fun of seeing each other again and getting to visit was that Teri gave me a sketch book. One like she likes to use.
I must say I have been having a good time sketching with it.
I haven't quite mastered the technique of how you add watercolor to these pages.
I have had such a good time sketching though. Teri has once again ignited my sketching.
Thank you again Teri for sharing your family, time and this fun sketchbook.
If you need a little inspiration to get you to sketch more pop over to her blog

Blooming Tuesday - Legend Oriental Lily

I have this gorgeous Oriental Lily in the garden this year. I thought it so pretty I tried to preserve it by painting it. It turned out ok. Then I decided it needed a dark background to make it stand out more.
I hate the way it turned out. I have more trouble with backgrounds. Do you?? It is very frustrating to me.
I hope you had a less frustrating Tuesday. Happy Blooming Tuesday anyway.

Arizona Journal 2013

I have to say I have been quite busy this spring/summer. Getting ready for a trip we took was fun. The anticipation of a trip can be almost as much fun as going.
I made a sketch book to take along. Actually I didn't make this one. It is a Cranson book that I modified with coverings and book marks.
Even though I didn't get my most wanted bird on the trip I did see plenty new birds and sights.
Sitting in the airport I began sketching. We had a couple of waiting times but not really much time in between flights.
We drove so much and was so busy I didn't sketch a whole lot while gone. I did take 1800 pictures so when life slows down I will have plenty of sketching inspiration.
Learning about Kachina dolls and the patterns on Indian Rugs was most interesting. I didn't know the significance to all the patterns on rugs and the positioning and clothing on the dolls. There was so much to learn about this area of the world.
It seems like there is always so much happening.
We drove so much.
There is never enough time to finish.
When I get home...
I am always "going to" add color or more drawings.
Yet it often doesn't happen.
While at the Grand Canyon it was just perfect weather. The Canyon met and exceeded my expectations. Not only was I fascinated with all the rock formations I was amazed at how when some of the trees die they stand in place, wind scouring them to make them look like driftwood.
The scenery in Arizona is gorgeous. I hope to get there during winter sometime to better appreciate their hot dry atmosphere. Phoenix and Tuscon had record hot days while we were there. Luckily we went into the mountains to do some of our birding and it wasn't as bad.
Have you been on a trip this summer or are you planning to?
