Animal Wednesday - Gilly

I was surfing the blogosphere one evening and came upon a picture of this horse. It had quite a touching story and I just loved this picture of it. I think its name is Gilly. I didn't mark down what blog I was on so I am sorry I can't give any credits to those that should get them.

This is my first attempt at doing a horse. His ears might be a little too long. Maybe that is the way he was in the picture. HAW to all of you Animal Wednesday people.

OSI Prompt 21 - Rest

In response to OSI prompt 21 Rest...

Emerald green lawn
is where I prefer to rest
the sky is not reachable

All except bees rest
when Luna is in repose
on the lawn with a smile

Pert pink ears alert
while seeminly inactive
watching slinking cat

Animal Wednesday - Fly/Bee?

The animals capturing my attention lately have been all of the bees and bugs that are inhabiting our garden at this time of year. Our garden seems alive with buzzing glittering bugs. Trying to capture that glitter is a chore. I like the challenge. My Dearly Beloved has been taking pictures for me. This is a good thing. I have a little notebook that I try to do my bugs in. I also try to id the bugs. Not happening with this tiny guy. In reality it is about a 1/4" long and has golden metallic look. HAW to all.

Animal Wednesday - Burrowing Owl

Several years ago we were in California birding. We came upon a prairie dog town and it had a resident burrowing owl. These little owls often take advantage of the prairie dogs chambers for their nests. I will never forget the little owl going behind a big clump of yellow California poppies and peeking at us. It's yellow eyes the same color as the poppies. I made this sketch to remind me of this memorable sighting. Haw to you all.

Cactus Monday

This is a try at painting my night blooming cereus cactus. It is a younger one. Actually it is several years old but has died back almost to the gravel, then reemerged. It bloomed with one blossom last summer. I missed the opening because of where it was sitting for the summer. This summer I placed it where I will see it every day. I don't want to miss one of its glorious blooms. Happy Cactus Monday from rainy SW IN.

Happy Independence Day

I have always liked these buntings that people put on their porches for the 4th holiday. A couple of friends of mine do this every year. I think they are so cheerful. I want to wish everyone a Happy Independence Day. I hope your picnics are full of food and laughter and not hampered by rain and ants.

Animal Wednesday

This is Vinny. He visits with us when his Mom and Dad are out of town. He and Luna are great friends even though he very small and she is very tall. Vinny is a lively boy. This is done in colored pencils.
