Cactus Monday

I am not pleased with the way the scanner made my cactus look so blue and dark. I worked hard getting that celedon color in the cactus painting then when scanned it went much darker. Hmmmmm

Scanners can do that with certain colors. Certain colors don't fax well either. None the less, it is a very good drawing.

Pretty watercolour, I think the colour is also influenced by the viewer's monitor.I don't know how to paint, but since you asked for suggestions.I think the cactus and the pot are rendered very nicely. If I am looking for a flaw, I think the cactus needs to be anchored a little more to the soil, I guess that is done by shadows. While I can draw and do murals I have problems painting well,so I can't offer a fix.
All your paintings are such much above average, please don't stop!

Theresa

Thanks Alan.

Theresa, I will consider better grounding with the next cactus. Thanks. Don't worry I won't stop. I need to paint more to get better.

Lisa, You are so talented! I don't usually visit here, but I happened to land here tonight. Besides the watercolor of the cactus, I enjoyed your haiku from yesterday. I've read so many bad haiku written by my students over the years that I'd forgotten how this "simple" poem can create such a beautiful image--well-done!

I take that as a great compliment coming from you Rose. I just love Haiku. I usually end up with a Haiku-like poem.

Lisa, this is a lovely cactus! The form, spines, love it all. I always take a photo of my art simply because Vista does not work with my scanner/printer, so can't help you there.

As for critiquing you art, I never do because I think the way you want to sketch or paint something is your own personal preference. Sometimes if we just let the art come, it turns out perfect. Not everyone will agree with it, but if it makes you happy, that's all that is important.

That being said, this should make you very happy!

Teri, Welcome back. I hope you had a good time. I don't remember asking for a critique so don't feel like you need to do so. I did whine about the scanner making my picutres look different. Some I take pictures of but I was having trouble with the flash washing out the color. Such trials. ha...

I'm sorry,I did not mean to offend, and like I said, I don't paint, it's too hard for me to do it right. It was the very first post on the blog that asked for any suggestions. I love your work, and your artistic abilities shine through in your garden etc.
I have a friend who also takes photographs rather than scan his work. He has this tripod set especially for reproducing.

Theresa

Don't worry Theresa, I was not offended by your suggestions. I really don't mind a critique when it is given as helpful suggestion. I do want to improve. I had forgotten that I asked for such. After all I have slept since then. tee hee....
Photographing might be the way to go with trying to put my pictures on the blog. I have troubble with that method too. Maybe I will have to ask my Dearly Beloved to do so. I don't want this to become a task though. It always seems that one thing leads to another doesn't it.

Have you tried taking a picture of it? Maybe the colours are better that way, just an idea ;)
Love your art!

I take photos of my art to post and it seems to work most of the time.

I do love your cactus drawing.... the gray is pleasing and calming to look at.

When I was making crafts to sell, (jewelry and dolls) most juried shows wanted slides rather than photos, I wonder what they use now? Anyway, in the serious magazines there were always articles on the best way to photograph your work. I bet there are how-to articles floating around the internet on how to photograph art work to it's best advantage. I am a lousy photographer, mostly because I can't hold my hands steady, but then again that is why tripods were invented.

Theresa

Looks marvelous to me. Your talent inspires me, Lisa. Thanks for that.

Glad you had a busy day in the garden.

Scanners are odd little machines. How does your camera do with capturing the colors accurately?
