While out walking in the park today we found this gall lying under some oak trees. I brought it home and painted it. I also cut it open to see if I could see what kind of larva was in it. It oozed some of the juice from the outer layer. The little wad of worms were in the center. They were quite small. The gall itself was about an inch long and wide at the widest point. I don't know what kind of gall it is but it was pretty. Do you know what kind of gall it might be? Happy Animal Wednesday.

Oh my gosh, I give it to you girl....You would never finding me this intrepid. You must be fearless.
What an excellent idea to bring the gall home and paint it Lisa. I wouldn't like the worms though! I'm afraid I can't help you identify it though.
Yuck indeed!
Looks like a fruit, delicious but then you have a mouthfull of worm?
But the sketch is great!!!!
HAW!
I've never even heard of a gall. Sounds like some sort of insect cacoon or nest for larvae? YUCK! I certainly admire your need to delve into all of nature, not just the fuzzy, cuddly parts.
Now this is a new one on me. HAW to Miss Creative
I never heard of this before, and I admire your curiosity! I have no idea. But it is very pretty.
