Almost Plein Air Painting

On a pretty day this week a friend and I decided to drive around and find an interesting subject to paint.  She paints with oils and I use watercolors. We thought it would be fun to see how we each interpret the same scene.  Well, we found a scene we liked. An old round barn built in 1908 according to the sign on the front of it but it was sitting smack dab in the middle of a pasture in full sun. It was too hot to be out there painting.  So I took a picture of it and we went back to my patio to paint.  As you can see our supervisor kept a keen eye on the table just in case we decided to have a snack while painting.
Below is my version of the barn.  I wish Theresa would let me put hers up here. She did a great job. Maybe next time.  Every time I look at mine I want to change something. ha... I guess that is the way it goes??

This is really neat with all of the shadows, etc. How big is the painting...would look great on a wall!!! It would be fun to see both paintings, for sure! You know that could be fun to do with a whole bunch of artists of different types and see what would be created!!!

That barn looks lovely and cool. Your kind touch took the heat out of the day, mercifully. What a great way to spend time. Thanks.

What a fun way to spend the day with a friend. Your patio looks shady and cool. I love your painting as well as the photo of the two of you.

What a nice idea! You both look comfortable in your patio, certainly more than in full sun in front of the barn.
I agree, your painting would look great on a wall.

I think it captures the beautiful sunny spirit of the day - and that's what really counts!

Wow Lisa, wonderful job. Those shadows are perfect. So good that you have a friend to go out sketching with.

So fun to see Luna checking it all out. Wish I could have been there with you.

Lisa, This is a lovely painting. You did a great job. Wish we could have seen hers too. Your patio looked much more comfy then sitting in the hot sun. :) Fun post today.

I love it. I would have liked to see the oil version too. That would be cool if she let you and then we could see more comparisons. I hope your supervisor didn't keep you completely away from snacks!

I really hope I have the time to sit down here with you girls just to paint and sketch.
But still can't find that amount of quality time!
