While Luna and I were having our walk today I was hearing several Grasshopper Sparrows calling. They were quite vocal flying here and there. I stopped when I saw one with a large green worm in its bill. It perched on top of a fence post waiting for us to go on our way. I wanted to see where it went with its prey. It wouldn't budge as long as I stood there watching it. I even walked away backward watching and it knew what I was doing. I gave up when it appeared so small I couldn't tell if it was on the fence post or not. It is amazing that they can call with a bill full of food.

How fun is that! Birds are so amazing and to know you are watching it is pretty amazing also. Now I need to go look up about this unfamiliar grasshopper sparrow.
I've never heard of this bird either. But all birds seem so smart. Except the doves. Dumb as rocks. lol
Lovely painting.
Love the image and the story to go with it! Birds are not as oblivious as we imagine them to be!
And now I need to go look up the Grasshopper Sparrow. I thought that's what you were calling him because that's what he had in his mouth!
They are the ultimate multi-taskers!
This is beautiful!
I have to answer your email, but I thought I'd comment here first because this painting caught my eye!
Really lovely Lisa ;)
Lisa....I would love to see your paintings in a book.......you must have such an amazing collection now.
Do they take you back to the moment you stood with the creature/bird?
My email address is cheryl@iconism.net
Could you let me have your address Lisa....I have misplaced it (no surprise there). I have something to send you.
I love it when animals outsmart people ;)
Such a lovely painting you made of it!
Have a nice day!
What a sweet encounter and a lovely watercolor painting! Nicely done! I enjoy going on your walks with you, even walking backwards.
Lisa I really love your painting of this bird. What a lovely record of a wonderful moment in time. So connected to nature! I am in awe you can do this... I can never get birds to stay still enough for me to capture there details!! Did you use a bird boook to help when you painted it later?
Critters are amazing, the way the know how to show up and live. Great artwork. Thanks, Lisa.
That a great image to go with your story about backwards bird watching! Love it!
You gave it full justice, it looks beautiful in this painting.
Clever little bird. You probably walked right passed it's nest.
I love to see the series of your bird project Lisa. You have tons of energy and creativity here. thanks!
