You do better at faces than I do, Lisa. Although, I have seen other artists who deliberately draw asymetrical faces and they actually look good. These are pretty good. Give them some color and let's see.
I think they are cute. I especially like the second one. I like what Laure said.. what do you see right about them.. I do the same thing. See the worst in my work.
I really like them. Faces are extremely difficult...you go girl...off to a good start!!! By the way, I am looking at an ornament right now and remembering all your ornaments...I may try this little raggedy ann ornament! Thanks for always encouraging me too!!!
Thank you for the positive feedback. I am looking for something that I like about them... I did these from photos in a magazine. It was the eyes that captured my imagination. One I did with pencil, the other with ink. I thought that with pencil I might be able to get more shading. Yet I like the pen's definite mark. I can't seem to back away far enough to see the right stuff.
portraits are tough aren't they? but wopperjawed? what a great expression. I also see alot of potential in these portraits - love their mouths. after 3 months of portrait drawing class, I think I finally did a good one at the last evening!!!
Hi Lisa ~~ Thank you for peeking in on my OSI and leaving your nice comment. I came over to see if you had written (Mr. Linky was silent). It is just Tuesday, I will check back.
First of all, I like your sketches. Mine are at the stickman stage (see my Ask Dr. Jim (blog) blog. Yes,the eyes are prominently featured (whopperjawed) on both girls. I would go to the library and learn more on drawing eyes if I was as good as you!
But thank you for introducing me to the slang word, whopperjawed. I Googled it and found it to be a 'regional' slang in the Ohio/Indiana area. Wider exposure, I don't know. Thank you, I will try to remember it to use. ..
Dear Lisa, Both of those girls are talking to me! Whopperjawed is a wonderful word.... perhaps they are a bit whopperjawed...I know a few people that are also whopperjawed like these two young ladies. Always wonderful to see your drawings. Sherry
I am laughing out loud to myself! I am also sitting in a restaurant by myself, so people think I am smiling at them! I love the drawings... But your self analysis is so funny.., whooperjawed!! Hee hee hee
I'm cracking up over the use of the word "whopperjawed". never heard that before! Eyes are hard - it's because they are so much a part of who we are inside. Practice makes perfect!

And what do you "see" right about them? I see sweet expressions and lovely textures in the hair and very expressive eyes!
Perhaps you do need practice but I think you are too close to see the good in these!
whopperjawed??? Great word Lisa! lol
Other than the eyes they look good. I expect to see more people popping up here.

I like them Lisa. They have personality and they are quite good. You really should draw people more.
I do like these girls. They are asking me to be kind.
They are sweet and endearing looking. I'd say the eyes have it!

I can tell y'all aren't from around here. Whopperjawed is a common term used here to express something that is out of kilter.

You go girl !!
Enjoyed looking at your work.
It must be very rewarding to create what you feel on paper.
I actually like the eyes! As Laura commented, they are very expressive. After the Icon post I'm drawn to the eyes wherever I go.
Hello Lisa,
How are you recently?
I hope you are fine!
They all have their individual impression, I love your style.
I am not aware of the eyes until you tell us but they are not that bad. I agree with you, practise made perfect. Me too here:)
You are far better than me, and almost there. I like those little girls.
I see such expression in the faces! What a lovely sketchbook ~
