Striped Skunk

We had an interesting encounter with a Striped Skunk this weekend. The only thing is this skunk didn't have a stripe down its back as it should be. He must have been awfully hungry to be out foraging during the day. Of course it warmed up a lot this weekend so the pickings were easy...if it could find them.  For more about my weekend encounter go here.

Oh oh, that could have been dangerous. Was it a young skunk? Great job of sketching it.

Cute face. Great drawing. Strange it didn't have a stripe down its back. We came across one in the day time a year or so ago. It was in a drain pipe along the road and came out just as we started getting close to it. I had my camera and got some good shots of it all the while backing up slowly as not to set that stink off. Annie was not helping by barking. :O

Very cute...but did he spray you?

Great drawing - I always find it difficult to sketch in the field. Not sure why he'd not have a stripe, perhaps he's starting a new trend?

What was your skunk doing without his stripe? Silly dude. I will read your adventure now.

Wonderful sketches!!

My curiosity just sent me Googling for unstriped skunks :)

Seems this is the female, less showy than the males. That makes sense!

Glad you didn't get sprayed. I did once and it's like being pepper sprayed!
