Animal Wedensday - Goldfinch

Today wasn't a very nice day for any animals outside. Not that it was so cold but the wind has been blwoing and the snow has been flurrying making it uncomfortable to be out. Not like up North. I am not complaining just stating a fact. The goldfinches kept coming to the sock outside my studio window.
I have been sitting around thinking (yes, this does occur) about what I could do for my "Kids Write" girl for Valentines Day.  We are told not to spend more than $5 if we send something. I mean, I don't know what I could do with that amount of money. Anyway I try to make things for her. I was about to give up on this thought when I read Julie's blog post HERE. She was making a heart doll and putting it into a jewlery box covered with pretty paper. I was inspired. Below is the box I covered with some red velvet covered paper. Then I made hearts on top with glitter glue.

Julie's doll was so cute. I just had to try that too. I had felt, floss, beads etc. So I got to work. This little doll will fit right inside the box. I hope my little girl likes her. It sure made me happy to have something to create for her. Thanks Julie for sharing your work.
Happy Animal Wednesday to all.  I hope everyone that has to deal with this storm is warm and safe.

That doll and box are lovely and very valentiney looking.

And you have goldfinches...how lovely - I feel like we live in Narnia right now.

Ah thats cute. The internet is wonderful for finding fun things to do. I am glad to see you feeding the birds. I so hope they are getting food back East where is so snowed in and cold. I feel for the poor animals.

i don't know about the "kid's write" thing but this is awfully sweet!

The weather today was nasty beyond nasty! Freezing rain on top of mounds of snow making knee deep slush. I couldn't get out of the driveway for hours. I just couldn't get traction. Finally we let it rain some more and wash the higher levels of slush away even after DH shoveled like mad.

But I have to tell you my squirrels and birdies are very well cared for. And I thought this was a sparrow!! I have tons of them at my feeder. Are they females or is this the winter plumage?

I trek outside to the feeders every morning and fill them along with scattering peanuts and extra sunflower seeds. I wonder how great they'd live if I actually had an income! :P

Dear Lisa,
A darling doll! Also your box turned out great. I love crafting. I often put restraints on my projects just to help me be creative.
Glad you are warm and safe. Our blizzard was really terrible. The birds help me as much as I help them.

Lolo, the Goldfinches are in Winter plummage. Difficult to tell the males and females apart this time of year. I know your birdies are well taken care of. I hope you are careful for yourself getting out in this mess.

Kids Write is a program that puts an adult in touch with a child in the 4th or 5th grade that needs a little extra attention. You just write letters back and forth. It helps them develop their writing skills. My little girl writes poems. She is 11 years old. Makes good grades etc. She gets bored in class. Too bad they can't challenge her a little more.

Love that little doll and box. What a wonderful and fun thing to do.

I know the birds are happy to be getting food from us humans.

I think the heart doll is precious. Maybe they put a limit of only $5 to force people to do something personal instead of just buying something. I'm sure she'll enjoy it!

What a cute idea! They are both so pretty, how could anyone resist?
Yeah, the weather sure has been sucky this year, hasn't it? And more bad stuff to come this week. Sheesh!

Lisa,
I strongly recommend the Kindle. It sure is a joy. Images come through very nicely on it, too.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Wow what a great job on these cute Valentine's gifts!
What is Kids Write? Oh I just scrolled down the comments and found out :)
How sweet of you to do that.

And those poor birdies and other animals! You sure are having an extreme winter in the US!
I have a bird feeder which I can see from my kitchen window.
But I have 3 pigeons coming regularly so I also put some seeds on the ground and the hoots come to.

You stay warm and safe Lisa.
Have a nice Sunday ♥

Lisa, I know your "Kids Write" girl will like these. They are so delicate and personal. She will probably treasure this gift from her teacher for a long, long time.
I have been retired now for ten years but still have some gifts from my students. You do also, right?
..
BTW, my favorite contemporary poet, Ted Kooser, has inspired me to "write" for ten minute a day.
He suggested starting with a journal type and just 'writing' from there. His end with one student was getting some of the student's work published.

These are so, so cute! I really think winter is affecting my brain. I hear ya' on the winter whine thing. I'm voicing my opinion right along with you. It was 6 this morning. Missoula got a foot two days ago. We didn't get quite that much. Yikes! You take care.
