Nessus Moth on Bluebells

This Nessus Moth was such a great find in our garden. It is the first time I have ever seen one. It was just outside my studio window nectaring on some native Virginia Bluebells. HAW to everyone.

I've never heard of that moth. Don't moths usually come out at night? Great job painting him. And I would love to have bluebells in my garden!

What a great job this is. I love it. I saw a moth once at dusk in my garden in CA that looked like a hummingbird. Didnt know what it was at the time & never saw it again but what a treat that was. Wish I had gone in and sketched it.

Oh beautiful! I love Moths...they are so unworldly - especially the huge ones! Once, while watching an opera in Santa Fe, an enormous one landed on my ankle...(during a particularly quiet moment in the opera)... I have a real fear of large insects.....and gasped in fear - imagining some tarantula or large beetle crawling up my ankle.... slowly, I looked down - and saw this gorgeous (and really big) purple and brown Moth..... I exhaled in relief...and let him sit on my ankle until he was ready to fly off into the New Mexico Evening!

Beautiful art!!!

Hugs,

You are always on the lookout for all the wonderful creatures that visit you. You did a wonderful job on this and I am jealous of your bluebells.

Like you said Joss nothing much has changed.

Lolo, moths do come out most at night but you can usually see them at dusk and dawn. I saw this one at dawn. My DB took a dark picture so I could paint it.

Thank you Teri, Cris and Lynn.

Robin, what a story. I wonder what kind of moth it was. Don't they feel like a feather tickling you? What a neat story. Some of the large ones remind me of fairies.

I have seen these before, usually more into summer. They like my coneflower and lilies. You have bluebells already? Lucky you. Cold and rainy still, here.

I thought I'd left a comment on this one awhile back... this is very neat. Once in awhile we get a hummingbird moth. What a fun thing to see out your window.
