I have started the larger journal I made some time ago. I have thought about what I will put in it and this is the first page. I usually take pictures while we are out and then paint when I get home. I always admire those that paint plein air. I rarely do that. Not for any reason other than I don't take the time to do so. I always say to myself I should do this but I am so easily distracted I don't. I am usually caught up in the moment of seeing a butterfly, bird or some wild flower. I do good just to get a picture of the distraction. Do you do a lot of plein air painting?

No I dont do plein air paintings. I too and always caught up in the moment and to antsy to sit and draw. Great first page. you captured that camera perfectly and simply. Will be fun seeing what you put in here. I need to do something like this. put everything in one book from photos I take.
Me too! I take way more pictures than I ever post - I would love to try plein air painting though. I've found I really like sketching items from real life like your camera, so painting should be just as fun. Great Sketch! You asked about my sister's caribou - I don't believe she would keep the hide, but not sure about Jeff. I know he was getting every little scrap of meat off of the bones so he's pretty careful about using everything and not wasting. There's not much call for caribou hide though.
Love the detail on the camera drawing.
You know I am Practicing drawing outside from what I see around me. I will graduate to painting next but first I just need to become comfortable doing what I normally do in private in public. Just started, so far so good.
Nothing more inspiring than a new journal and I know you made a beauty! Love the first page. It's so meaningful to you.
I do p,rain aire painting as much as I can and also take tons of photos for future paintings. I need to live till i'm 200 to paint some of them.
Great first page in your new art journal. Wonderful detail in the camera
A super idea...I have tons of photos ready to be illustrated and painted...someday...somewhere...somehow...:) Love the camera on the front...:)
Wow, that's a great first page, the camera, superb! I have never done a plein air painting myself. I admire those that will keep a journal, look forward to getting a glimpse of what you put in yours.
love the first journal page. i usually get so caught up in LIFE when I go out that not only do I not paint or sketch, but I forget to take pictures. If I am just on a casual walk up the street though i usu bring my camera with intent to take pictures.
No, I almost never paint on sight. I usually take a photograph and sketch/paint when I get home. Like you, I am too busy enjoying the moment and the distractions.
I love this really good sketch of your camera! Have fun with your new book.
Hi Lisa,
Love the detail in the camera. That is a great drawing.
What a wonderful way to start your journal......anticipating what is ahead.
You might be interested to know I have been drawing flowers that are blooming in the garden at the moment.
I haven't put them in the lovely book that you sent, I am just playing at the moment :)
I do most of my carving outside but have never taken to plein air sketching or painting. Maybe it has something to do with the glare on the white page/canvas. Love your camera sketch!
If the first page is any indication, this is going to be a fabulous sketchbook! Yes, I do paint on location, but I find that I have to deliberately go for that reason. I will occasionally pull out my sketchbook, but if I'm not prepared and in the right mindset, I don't seem to pull it off.
Your journals insire and humble me. I love what you have done here.
Your camera here is awesome!!!!!!!!!
Paths Yet Taken is a great name for your journal. I'm not sure I could sketch plein air either. I don't think I could capture the details that way.
Love the first page....
you are inspiring.....
Sherry
