Animal Wednesday - Common Redpoll

This crazy weather has driven another unusual bird into our territory. A friend wrote to tell that he had a Common Redpoll coming to his thistle feeders along with the Goldfinches. This is highly unusual to have this bird so far South despite it's name being Common Redpoll. It is most uncommon around here.
It was such fun going over to our friends house and sitting in the truck watching for the little finch to come in. We had to wait an hour but it was a nice sunny day so we kept warm despite the wind and cold temps as the sun kept the truck cab toasty.
Happy Animal Wednesday.

Great sighting and journal entry! I really like the way you divided up the page and the lively poses of the birds.

Great sighting and journal page. We are starting the migrating pattern here soon.. if not already so I will have to be on the look out daily now. Nice to see one out of its area like this.

I think all the birds know where you live and want to get in your journal. It's beautifully done Lisa.

Teri's comment is too cute!
I agree...the birds all say, let's fly to Lisa and *pose* for her!

I love to stay and watch (even if it takes a while) for Birds...when they show up...it is so rewarding!

Your sketches have taught me so much! This little Redpoll is gorgeous!

HAW!

Love the "action" you've captured in the sketch, Lisa! And kudos to you for sticking with it until you were able to see him!

You are one patient girl! Of course you had the company of each other but I don't think I could sit still for an hour to wait for a bird to arrive! Your painting is just wonderful. I put out a thistle feeder this year and no one used it! Very unusual. I've thrown out the seed and will try again.

wow - you are dedicated. I'm not sure I would have waited an hour for the chance of seeing a certain bird. You do capture them so well, it's hard to sketch moving things!

Bird watching can be so rewarding. Yesterday we had a baby Red Chested Cuckoo in the garden all day. He was being fed by a wagtail, a third of his size. I love this journal entry Lisa. You've captured the essence of bird.

Beautiful drawings, as always. My Mom used to have many Redpolls but sadly they haven't been around for several years. So glad you were able to see them. I miss them!
