Animal Wednesday - Amish Country

I have either been out birding or working in the garden lately. Tuesday we went into Amish Country looking for Loggerhead Shrikes. We didn't find any but it was such a beautiful day. You can see in the pictures how it started off foggy but the fog soon burned off.

The men were plowing the fields. This picture was taken from afar. They don't like to have their picture taken but I just couldn't resist picturing this scene. The men plowing and the children in the background playing.  The huge beautiful, Perchuron (??) horses pull those plows.
Happy Animal Wednesday.

Great pictures. I didnt know there were Amish close to you. How far from you was the drive?

How neat that must be to live near Amish country! I have been enjoying a few Amish stories by Cindy Woodsmall lately!

What patience it must take to plow a field this way. A real meditation I would think.

Reminds me of the Jodi Picolt book about an Amish family and their ways.

I love those big draft horses and the idyllic farm scene. There are Amish down near where we go in MO too. There's a market my MIL loves that is in Amish country so we always go over there to make a few purchases.

How beautiful and idylic it all looks! I didn't know you had Amish *neighbours*....(this shows my ignorance - I always associated Amish in PA and OH)... the horse is a Percheron.....one of my favourite of the *Big Guys*!

Love the sign! You must have had a wonderful day!

Hugs.

Don't you just love the quiet, peaceful, old fashioned ways of working? How better to commune with the earth? We have an Amish neighborhood just down the road from me. The town I live in now is mostly Quaker.
We used to have shrikes at our other house. They liked to fly around our fish pond.I don't remember how they sounded, though.

I've been to Amish country in both Ohio and Pennsylvania. I think their farms and homes are so picturesque. I have a hard time stopping taking photos of the scenery. I also love seeing their clothing hanging out to dry on clotheslines.

I really like that photo even if it's from a distance. It's getting green there!
