My DB and I just returned from AZ. We were in the Tuscon area for a few days then on to the Grand Canyon. It was a marvelous trip. Did I see cactus? You bet. Here is a purple Prickly Pear cactus. I had never seen any so big. They seemed to be everywhere.
We hadn't been in AZ for about 10 years so it did seem to have some different cactus. Or maybe I am now more aware of them.

Wow! All my years visiting New Mexico, I have NEVER seen Purple Prickly Pear! This is fantastic! I'm sure you had a wonderful (and warm) time in Arizona! I love the smell of Sage and Pinon in the air! I'm off to Santa Fe, myself, tomorrow for 10 days of High Desert Air, a few Operas and of course, Margaritas!

It sounds like a good trip. I love these cacti. We saw barrel cactus when we were at the Valley of Fire. I'd forgotten how big they were.
