Animal Wednesday - Goldfish

This is a watercolor that I did in my art class a couple of weeks ago. I have named it Fred. I had a goldfish that the kids won at the fair for several years. I just loved Fred so I was delighted when we were to paint this fishy.

We used some iridescent medium on this fish to give it that shiny quality that fishes show. This is one reason why I like to take art classes. You learn a new technique every once in awhile plus you get to be around people that like to paint or do other artsy things.

HAW to all you animal lovers out there.

wow, that's beautiful. I love the contrast of the bowl against the blue background. What is irridescent medium? Sounds like it might be interesing. I think I need a class like that - I have no knowledge of technique.
HAW to you!!

I love the bowl!!! Amazing! AND, how you made the rocks in the bottom sort of veering, which is naturally what you would probably find in a fishbowl! I wish I could take an art class...

Mim, the iridescent medium is basically a silvery substance you can mix with watercolors or apply directly onto the object you want to sparkle. Interesting stuff. I found this at Hobby Lobby. Made by Winsor & Newton. It washes out of your brush.

Julie, maybe you can find an individual that gives classes. This is what I do. It isn't as expensive to do as going to a university to class.
