I too am impressed with artists who keep sketch journals. I started one but fizzled out after a couple weeks. Sketching really helps with the eye/hand coordination and practise is always good.
I really like that you can just sit down and sketch your garden whenever you feel the need. There were a few times this summer when the light was just right... ah well my camera will have to do.
