A friend of mine gave me several magazines to browse through. Family Circle had a little article that has made me quite happy. You see it states that if you doodle while listening to a lecture or in a meeting you will actually remember 29% more of what is said. At least that is how I read it. It is actually about a study regarding children doodling during class. After all we are all just older children. If you click on this photo you can read the small print.

That expalins it!!
I had a very short stint in college but the classes I took I did very well in.
One day in Anthropology class I was 'doodling away' while the professor droned on and on.
My friend turned to ask me whet he said and I repeated it verbatim!!
She yelled at me..."How do you DO that?"
Now I know ;)
oops, I meant 'explains!'
I should have been doodling ;)
What a super designs Lisa....Love every little doodle bit of it....When I was teaching I allowed my students to doodle their notes in the theme of the movie or video they were watching(ie Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, etc...)...the results were artistically amazing and the retention of material mind blowing...Cool page! :)
Hi Lisa....I believe that could be true. When I am talking on the phone I absorb more of the conversation if I am doodling.....
Yep me too.. I doodle when on the phone and sometimes listening to something boring. I do hear more of it then I would. Nice to see it in print.
Margaret, I didn't draw the doodle on the post. It was part of the article. I took a picture of it.
"I am a chronic doodler." This one is great...sorty of zentangly, which I say zentangles are just glorified doodles! Love it! Wednesday's spotted owl was really, really nice!
I think playing solitaire on your cell phone during a rather boring meeting at work, kinda works the same way! I tested it recently and I retained quite a bit about the subject matter! Amazing! (And wonderful)!!!
And that explains why I doodle in church! Ah, now I am forgiven. lol
When I worked in the S and L business we were asked not to doodle people's names. One lady was doodling on her meeting notes, and it and the fellow whose name she doodled actually had to appear in court.
I remember reading something about this and being thrilled to pieces. I let my students doodle--they draw vocab words for our Word Wall. I had the laziest kid draw "motivate" for me. It was a private joke, but he did a great job.
Love that, I doodle a lot!
Very cool doodles! What an interesting little tidbit and one that makes a lot of sense. I used to that in college...
Some of my best work starts out as a doodle!! I like you doodle my way through life--I keep a spiral notebook handy here on my desk for notes and my constant doodling while I am reading blogs and uploading photos...its a way to relax while relaxing!!
I doodled in school I still do while on the phone....
Fun to read!
So interesting! I was reprimanded for doodling in class on many occassion (and am still reprimanded for doodling whilst on the phone ..... but thats because I obliterate the phone book with meandering doodles)
