Outside my studio window I watch the hummingbirds come to the hosta blooms every day. I have noticed that the hosta blooms close at night and then reopen the next morning. After all of these years of looking at hosta blooms I finally noticed this thanks to the little hummer that comes here daily.
This was done by using ink and a water brush with a little watercolors in the background.
Happy Blooming Tuesday.

How pretty, love the hummingbirds and the hosta as well. Sadly there was a hummingbird flying about our garage last weekend, hope he found his way out after we left. Have a great Tuesday.
I just love your little hummer Lisa. The whole painting just looks so natural.
HBT
How sweet, Lisa! Nice painting...love the background too. I am going over to Greenbow Gardens now!
Lovely sight and great painting!
think you've done a humming bird before, they are so tiny, yet so intricate. fantastic art.
Lisa, I love the softness of the background. It truly compliments the lovely hosta bloom and hummingbird. Your paintings are always a delight.....
I think whats great about sketching is you start to REALLY SEE things around you. This is a charming hummingbird painting.
Amazing. I would love to see something like this. Thanks for sharing the experience.
nice mix of ink and paint - I find my ink blurs uncontrollably - it's never on purpose! Great hummingbird and flower!
There's that cutie bird again! Your painting is so very delicate and charming. I did not know that about hostas, either, and I didn't know that they attracted hummers.
I'll have to watch them both more closely.
This is so sweet...love that little hummer!
how cool that hummingbirds come to hostas, a flower that does not get enough attention (in my opinion)
That is one lovely little hummer. Great job. Do you try to draw or paint each day? You must.
sweet painting.
We're letting the neighbor use our yard for his old dog because he works long days and the dog gets too hot and lonely in his apartment. The downside is his dog destroys the yard! Flattened hostas, dug up hydrangeas...ugh. But I know this is probably her last summer. Still, it's hard to watch doggy destructo in action!
hahahahah!! Word veri is "ranter!!"
Wow what a wonderful painting!
Hope all is well. Still have to send you that paper...... but today will be busy and tomorrow I must work. But I wont forget dear....... Otherwise I will mail it after my Singapore trip. Things will be back to normal then...........(I hope)
Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
When I first look at this illo, I first marvel through the purple grey textured background, then I draw my eyes back to the subject.
Lovely humming bird she is and it comes alive with the lively flying action. Awesome!
