Cactus Monday - Labor Day

My little pot of cactus and succulents is faring well in this hot dry weather. The odd thing to me is that the cactus has some growths on it.
Maybe one of you cactus/succulent aficionados can tell me what has caused this. The blooms are usually up around the crown of this cactus. These growths are more in the center of this cactus. They really make me curious. Perhaps they are seed pods formed where the pollen of the flowers fell captured by the spines and nutured??

Happy Cactus Monday. I hope eveyrone is enjoying a free day. For more Cactus Monday views go to Teri's Painted Daisies here.

I don't know anything about cactus, but this looks rather interesting. Maybe this is how it reproduces?
Your drawing is cute.

Well that is certainly a cool development and perfect for today! I would venture a guess that it is new growth since these little guys lie to have babies all around them.
We will all e waiting for an update!!!!

Interesting plant. I have no clue either. Cute drawing too. You need to take it to a nursery.

Hi Lisa
I have read all the comments - no answer... I am curious.

Anyway, HCM and Labor Day (belated).

Hi! You are correct in saying these are seed pods. Some cactus develop these after they get there flowers. They will probably turn bright red and eventually fall off. In that way in the wild they can reproduce. The cactus is very healthy. Love your picture also! HCM
