The other day I found _Personal Geographies: Explorations in Mixed-Media Mapmaking_by Jill K. Berry. You can read about it here. I can tell you this. I am gonna have some fun with this mindset.
I found this book on Gwen Diehn's blog. She was a contributer to the book but for the life of me I can't remember the name of her blog. If I find out I will link it later. HERE she is.
Below is my first attempt with the inspiration from the book. I must say there is a whole lot more that you can do of course. I think I will be having some fun.
This is the other page. We had such a good time yesterday chasing "state" birds. That meaning birds I had never seen in Indiana, the Say's Phoebe, and for Illinois the Snow Owl. A State Bird in two states in one day. This doesn't happen very often. Happy Day.

Wonderful pages and paintings! And congrats for sighting these birds. I should get to know birds better.
Such a creative idea ~ would be fun to draw something seen on a trip and create a travel journal from maps. Like you, I'd choose birds :-) LOVE the owl!
Oh Lisa,
The Snowy Owl is my husband's fav!!Your drawing is lovely...we use maps for wrapping paper and in our travel journals too.
We always stop at the state information centers when we road trip.
Your birding sounds fun!
Your work always inspiring.

These are so cool. My mother in law paints and draws. She would love this. Oh, and she loves birds... fantastic idea and lovely pieces.
Merry Christmas!
I think your Snowy Owl would be the best of Christmas cards...
had to bring my husband over to see your Owl...

I like these very much. What a great idea. I love the way your artistic conversations come to life in your art.
I love them both Lisa. How cool to see both these birds and map them! I've seen several artists who work with maps and think their art is fun. happy Christmas to you. gail
I love your journaling. Layering art over a map sounds like it will add another dimension to what you already do.
