Animal Wednesday - Winter Wren

Sunday while we were out birding we got a real treat. We pulled up to a spot to listen for birds that might be about and out pops this winter wren. It was quite upset that we were in it's territory. It stood on this stick and did push ups fussing for quite some time.
This behavior was unusual because these little birds are secretive. They only come down into my territory during winter which makes it so appropriate that their common name is Winter Wren. It's scientific name is Troglodytes troglodytes. They breed way up North and are fiesty little birds only 4 inches/10cm long.
This sighting is the first since 2007 so you can see why I was so excited.
Have you seen any exciting animals lately? Do join us over at Mim's for Animal Wednesday.
HAW to all.

What a lovely wren, Lisa! I miss these little bundles of energy - I don't see them down here though I know the range maps show that they migrate to Florida.

Oh Lisa, this is such a beautiful painting. You have captured little wren perfectly. Well done.

They are shy. Sometimes the wrens that live in the garden carry out the same action, it is very amusing, isn't it?

Wow, this is a fantastic painting! You do so well at putting these little birds on paper. I would probably have overlooked this little birdie if I had seen it. I'm hearing lots of bird sounds all around me now. Lots of crows!
One bird I hear keeps saying,"Eee-ow, eee-ow" over and over till I want to choke it! I've no idea what I'm hearing. It's not a hawk, but something with a pretty sing-song voice. I hope it gets a mate soon. :-)

The little bird is so alive too here!
I wonder how long you took to finish your beautiful illustration. I can imagine that you patiently put down every strokes and paints to form this brilliant piece.
