Animal Wednesday - Drama in the Garden

I wish I had had my camera in my hand when I saw this drama beginning. Our neighbors big black cat is outraged with all the squirrels in the garden. She lies in wait for birds too which I don't appreciate but when she gets after the squirrels I don't really mind. The squirrels need to be culled. There are so many in the neighborhood. They thrive on our birdseed.
This squirrel is much too wiley for the the cat. You can see the cat in the lower left crook of the tree while the squirrel is on the big limb on the upper left of the tree. The squirrel was shaking it's tail and chattering at the cat. This is about the time the cat gave up. Those squirrels are fast.
Happy Animal Wednesday.

Hi Lisa... this is a great story....yes, wish you had captured it on video! It's still a wonderful shot! But, I can almost hear the Squirrel *taunting* the cat! I love that *chattering* sound they make!

I am instantly reminded of Lolo's Dog, Emma - who has a long-standing out and out declaration of *WAR* against all Squirrels.... whenever she sees one (and they LOVE to taunt her)...she goes berserk! My nickname for her is "Squirrel Huntress" - or "SH" for short!

Thinking of you...

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

Yes, the squirrels are really thriving this year. I have never seen a cat go up the tree after one though. Great story.

Now that's a priceless photo. Annie loves to chase them off the ground. Its a good way to get her exercised. Just yell SQUIRREL and off she goes running around the yard checking all the trees. :)

Hehehe...animals are so darn cute! I really hate the idea of the cats after the birds too! My neighbor found a dead male cardinal in her yard, and wanted to blame a cat. My kitty is out only at night and comes back in around 4am every night like clockwork. But, cats will be cats, and mine is already 15 years old...what can I do? I love to watch them in their attempts at each other!

We don't have any squirrels near the house, but we sure do get the magpies and ravens that tease our dogs. I love watching squirrels at the cabin....my husband? Not so much. They damage too much stuff.

Those squirrels are stinkers. Well, cats are too but not in the same way. Love the story.

The Squirrels will usually win - what pests they are! they eat all our birdseed also. For awhile we had a fox in the yard, and very few squirrels, but when he had eaten all our squirrels, he moved on to greener pastures and now we have those pests again!
