Happy Halloween

How long has it been since you have carved a pumpkin?  For us it had been a l-o-n-g time.  So when we were invited to a pumpkin carving party...well, we had to do one ahead of time to be prepared.

I always wanted a fancy cut out.  We bought one of those kits with patterns

and various knives, scrapers, drills.  Surprisingly all of these little plastic tools worked good.

We ended up with fun pumpkins to display.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Animal Wednesday - Mummy Cat

Leave it to National Geographic to have something out of the ordinary for halloween entertainment without even mentioning that it is Halloween.  In their November publication that comes in October there is an article about mummified animals.  I thought it was quite interesting.  Here is my rendition of a mummified cat. It is done with micron pens. Happy Animal Wednesday.

Blooming Tuesday - Dried flowers

Today I am showing you part of the page I did for Suki's book.  You see there are 9 of us artists doing a book for each.  We pass them along so each can do a page for each book.  Am I clear?? Probably not so you can go to the Artysoulsisters Blog where you can see what I mean.  Happy Blooming Tuesday.

Cactus Monday

Since I have been negligent in my Cactus Monday posts I looked for a cactus to draw.  No luck there but when I was writing in my garden diary about the frost the past couple of nights I discovered the page below.  It has a sketch I did of a pot of succulents and a cactus!  The little stringy thing in the front of the pot is what is the cactus in this group.  It is a "Mouse Tail" Rhipsals horrida.  An unusual looking thing. I hope it survives this winter in our house. I actually have it inside the small conservatory in the foryer under lights.  Happy Cactus Monday to all.

Luna

We have has such miserable weather lately what with so much rain. UGH... Truly fall-like weather. We did manage to get out and bird some today. The forest is beginning to look worn. Just a little color.

It was Luna's lucky day.  She got to go with us.  We had to be careful about flooded areas. When we got home she was tired enough to let me sketch her a little.  She doesn't like for me to stare at her. Ha...

I hope you all had a good weekend too.

Thankful Thursday

I am so thankful for the lady with a big heart and generous soul that sent me these lovely atcs.  Thank you Linda aka Stampmaiden.  When I had one of 'those' days the postman handed me this envelope with two marvelous atcs. I am always amazed at how many different stamps and ways to use them that Linda comes up with. I feel so blessed to receive these marvelous little cards of art.

Moleskine Thoughts

I will bet that just about every one of you reading my blog owns a moleskine sketchbook of some sort.  Whether it is a watercolor, lined, grided or just plain ole sketch book, large or small. Yes, I bet that you have tried one at some point.

My question to you is have you ever thought about how "moleskine" is pronounced??  Up until now I have always ignored the e at the end of the word and pronounced it mole skin. Just like it looks without that pesky e at the end of the word.

While I was reading the September/October issue of Bird Watcher's Digest at the end of the magazine I came upon an article written by Bill Thompson,III.  It seems that Bill also likes to use the Travel notebook:Moleskine.  What really caught my attention in this article is how he says you pronounce moleskine as mol-a-SKEEN-a.  Now Bill travels all over the world birding and of course pursuing business but I believe him when he says that is how it is pronounced.  After all an Italian company makes them.   I'll betcha one more thing...he found out about these lovely books through his wife Julie Zickefoose who is a great artist and writer too.  How do you pronounce moleskine??

Blooming Tuesday - Cattail with Yellow-headed Blackbird

Elk in Snow

I must have been cold yesterday because when I saw a picture of this Elk in the snow I felt like I knew just how he felt. These are such amazing animals.  I couldn't see where to put a cactus in this picture.  It would be covered with snow.  HCM anyway.
