Cactus Monday - Gila Woodpecker

Goodmorning Cacuteers. I couldn't decide whether to post this picture on Cactus Monday or Animal Wednesday. Well, Cactus Monday won because I have a difficult time thinking of Cactus picutres. This Gila Woodpecker lives in the desert and makes its nests in saguaro cactus. Several other birds reuse their nests.

I have the hardest time coming up with cactus ideas too! Some of the members make it look so easy and beautiful. This is a really nice drawing! Love the close-up of the bird with just a hint of the cactus.

Good decision Lisa because this is one of the birds that makes the holes in my cactus today! Plus you and birds are a great pair.

Dear Lisa,
I am studing Woodpeckers this year and just read about the Gila. I would love to see one.
I could use this watercolor for a guide it is so good. I bet your sketch book is a delight to behold. You have amazed a nice volume of work this past year.
I am so glad you picked up the brush and the pencil again.

Wonderful!
We have a woodpecker in the garden (black/white and red) who eat the peanuts. They are little rare here so I´m always exited when I see them. This is lovely I don´t know this kind and the fact they built their nests in cacti.
Wonderfully painted as always
