Walk at the Park

This week we had quite an eventful walk at the park.  When we first started our walk as we normally do we saw an adult Bald Eagle cruising up the river.  They nest not far from this area and we have been seeing them more the past year.  It is about time for them to begin their courtship.

Further on we were walking quietly up the road when I thought Luna was just going to the end of the leash to relieve herself, all of a sudden I hear the loudest snarl and she started growling and about dragging me.  She happened upon a Racoon that was trying its best to avoid us by lying low in the leaves. I didn't even see it. Of course Luna did.  It was a good thing she was on her leash.  I would have had a dog to take to the vet no doubt.  The Racoon was having nothing to do with her and she wasn't backing down.  I pulled her to me and the Racoon took the opportunity to run up a tree and stare at us. It was outraged obviously by how the poor creature screached and snarled. I had never heard such a sound out of a racoon before.  Needless to say Luna checked out the tree again today as we walked by. The racoon was no where to be found thankfully.

I hope you are all finished with your shopping, wrapping and are able to enjoy the rest of the build up to the big day.

I never thought I'd say I dislike a particular animal but living in Pacific Grove was quite an eye opening experience with vicious raccoons that go out of their way to attack people, dogs and cats! I'd never, ever seen anything like it. I have a healthy respect for them now...from a distance.
I'm so glad the raccoon wanted no part of Luna, literaly!

OMG! Big excitement!!! Yes...I have heard thet sound you heard out of a racoon! They live all in our little village here!!!

Neat journal entries and drawings!!!

I think I am done with shopping...and if I am not...I don't care!!! LOL. This has been my most laid back year of all. Thank God! It is much more enjoyable.
Hope you are done too.

Happy Christmas week!!!

My dog a GSD/Golden retriever mix named Muttly, had to kill a raccoon that attacked us one time. It was quite frightening-my dog was leashed but I had to let him go because I wasn't going to hold him while the raccoon attacked him.

It was brief, and Muttly was unscathed, but I've heard stories and I realize we were very lucky.

It was unfortunate, but we were in an open wooded area and the coon was an old cranky one who chose not to run-it was a bad choice on his part I suppose.

Wow, that was close! It would have been a real mess, for sure. Nice to take winter walks, though. So much more to see.

My shopping is all done and wrapped and somehow I keep feeling like Christmas should be so much closer than it really is. We still have four more days left. Seems like it should be one or two to me. Not that I'm in a hurry, or anything.

Oh how scary, Lisa! We know the damage that racoons can do to our pets. I am glad you saw that bald eagle, too cool for school. There are some that sail over the golf course where my husband plays. The golfers all stop their play to admire the large birds. I always think of you when we see any unusual birds, yesterday it was a group of at least ten wild turkeys near our daughter's house in Knoxville. They were foraging in the dried leaves in a woodland, but we have seen them in the open fields near there as well. Wonderful to watch. Hope your holidays are the best ever. We are not quite ready, but getting there. :-0

Oh how cool seeing the Bald Eagle. So glad nothing happened to Luna. My Dad used to hand feed Racoons in SO CAL, they were friendly, I have pictures of him feeding them and they didnt hurt his cats at all, but then I have heard horror stories since living here. I would never feed them myself. We have them here but never see them in the day time & we have a little fenced in area that Annie can go out in the dark & be safe to do her business.

Hi Lisa.....what an experience. So pleased Luna was okay and the racoon. I tend to keep Nella on an extension lead these days. Safe for her and the wildlife.....

Interesting post.....
