Yellow-crowned Night Heron

This Yellow-Crowned Night Heron was sitting on a stick-up in the resaca early in the morning. It let us approach it quite close. I guess it knew we humans wouldn't wade out into the cold water to try to have it for breakfast. We must have looked well fed.

This cutie is amazing.
I love the little details on the bird's body and the shadow casted.
Sorry to drop by late.
I posted and went off for teaching and just came back:)
Thanks for dropping by and giving kind comments Lisa.

Gee, I had to look three times to see if it was a photo or a drawing! Wonderful job!

Very nice rendering! Do you draw from nature or photos or memory?

Thank you for all the encouraging words.

Steviewren, I usually draw/paint from photos. I want to break out and draw more from my imagination but I am having trouble breaking through that way. I do occasionally draw from memory. It has to really grab my mind to stay there long enough to be painted.

Such a great drawing. I would love to see one of these in person.

What a cute and unusual bird! He kinda looks like an old man hunched over! :) Nice painting!!!

Love your heron and your hints of water...it is exactly how he sits and stares!
